Principal's Message

JOIN US IN EXPLORING THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF BOOKS!
anna_sandy.jpg

At Charlotte Wood Middle School, we see each book we read as a brand new adventure.  Because we read, we have been able to experience different world cultures, unusual careers and professions, and the consequences of good/poor life choices.  We share our joy of reading with our students in many and varied ways:

•    Book Billboards are posted outside each staff member’s classroom or office to reflect his/her current reads.  These are high-interest conversation starters for our students.
•    “Battle of the Books” competition team has already begun here at CWMS.  Our student team needs to read 8 books by May, when there will be a contest with the other middle schools in the District.  Check out the library section on this website for more information
•    Brown Bag lunches are held with Library Media Teacher Akiyo Sugiyama every Thursday and Friday during all three lunch periods.  All students are welcome to join the group, which reads the same book and then watches the movie at the end.  Current selection is “Coraline”.
•    English teachers encourage love of reading by providing students choices in reading selections at their ability level or higher.  Reading Workshop strategies are used to motivate and instill the habits of good readers.
•    Library Media teachers Susan Tu and Akiyo Sugiyama present book studies for our English classes, in the classrooms as well as in the library.
•    Our Reading/Writing Cohort group of teachers is in contact with the town of Danville to extend our literacy efforts to the Danville Library and beyond.
•    I have posted a Book List on my web page , indicating some of my favorites. If you like reading, you’ll love these.  ENJOY!

As you can see from the picture of my 2-year old granddaughter,  Anabelle, we Buddes begin our adventures in reading early in life!

Wishing you all lots of delightful reading experiences in 2010,
Sandy Budde
